Trico Center for Family Wellness
INTERVIEW WITH BRENDA SMITH, GENERAL MANAGER
Located in the heart of southeast Calgary across from Southcentre mall, Trico Centre is a leader in the delivery of sport, recreation and community services for people of all ages. In 2004, we completed our first expansion and enhanced our facility to include a large, renovated fitness facility with running track, fitness change rooms and two new exercise studios - a great addition to our existing wavepool and waterslide facility, arena, gymnasium and multi-purpose rooms. At the end of 2009, we opened our doors with our second large facility expansion completed. This enhancement included a new arena (we now have dual arena's on site), a remodeled front entry, a new family changeroom and fully renovated aquatics changerooms, new food services tenant Jugo Juice, 7,000 square feet of tenant wellness space and additional customer parking.
As a community owned facility, Trico Centre works in partnership with 27 surrounding community associations which encompass 36 communities, with the vision and mandate of promoting healthy lifestyles and active living in south Calgary. Our four original communities of Willow Ridge, Bonavista Downs, Parkland and Deer Ridge have been joined by neighbouring communities Lake Bonavista, Acadia, Auburn Bay, Chaparral, Cranston, CKE (Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove, Eagle Ridge), Evergreen, McKenzie Lake, McKenzie Towne, New Brighton, Deer Run, Diamond Cove, Riverbend, Southwood, Shawnessy, Somerset-Bridlewood, Queensland, Mid-Sun (Midnapore & Sundance), Millrise, Woodbine/Woodlands/Woodcreek, Canyon Meadows, Kingsland and the Marquis de Lorne Community Association (Copperfield and Mahagony).
Open since 1983 as Family Leisure Centre, we are currently celebrating our 27th year as a non-profit facility. Trico Centre continues to evolve, expand and improve so that we continue to be your neighbourhood recreational centre of choice!
